PARACETAMOL (PCM) - USE, SAFE DOSAGE, BRAND, SIDE EFFECT , ETC.

PARACETAMOL - (PCM) 

                                  Use - Antipyretic ( reduce temperature) , Analgesic ( reduce pain) any type of pain headache, post surgery pain, menstrual pain etc.

                                  Working Mechanism - paracetamol inhibits secretion of prostaglandin , which increase body temperature by effecting hypothalamus ( body temperature regulator) , and its secretion by other cellular tissue results in pain sensation this it's inhibition help to get relief from increased temperature and pain. 

                                  Dosage - PCM is available in variable dosage and variable form. But usually its dosage for an individual is decided according to body weight. 

    For 10 kg individual its dosage as concern is  125 mg in 4 hr. Normally dosage given a time - 

         For children - 100mg - 125 mg 

         For adult -  500mg  

But in severe cases doctor can increase dose acc. to requirement. 

But maximum dose for an adult is 4 gm ( 4000mg) / day. More than this can cause severe side effect if taken frequently. 

                                   Availability - 

                      100 mg - drop for children 

                       200mg - liquid 

                       300 mg - tablet 

                       500 / 650 mg - tablet 

       In further condition injection for more high 

        Dose are given. 

                                     Brand - Calpol, Dolo, 

        Panadol, T98, 99F etc. 

                                     Side effects - if taken frequently in high can cause - liver damage which may lead to jaundice or other liver related problems. 

    - kidney damage. 

    - may lead to hypersensitivity symptoms 

       Include nausea ,  vomiting, rashes, 

        Breathing difficulties, etc. In this case patient require emergency treatment. 

                                  Key point - in pregnant or lactating women's PCM is considered good in moderate amount for any type of pain or fever problem. But if taken frequently in high dosage in pregnent women then it can lead to asthma problem to developing baby. So females should take after concerning doctor.
